Common peony (Paeonia officinalis) is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full or part sun. Crimson red blooms open in late spring. The plant grows 18 to 24 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide, so it fits well in the middle of a bed.
