Notes

Purple sage (Salvia leucophylla) is a shrub for borders, hedges, and xeriscape gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy or loamy soil. It blooms with purple flowers in spring and again in summer, and butterflies, bees, and birds visit them. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. You can shape it into a low hedge.

Pairs well with Eastern mojave buckwheat, California brittlebush, and Cleveland sage.
