Notes

American alumroot (Heuchera americana) is a perennial for shade gardens, woodland gardens, rock gardens, and borders. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist, loamy soil. In sunny spots, the leaves take on a bronze cast several months into the growing season. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Bees visit the small greenish flowers.

Pairs well with Blue-eyed grass, Cinnamon fern, and Prairie dropseed.
