Notes

Crooked aster (Symphyotrichum prenanthoides) is a perennial for borders, pollinator gardens, and woodland plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Blue flowers open in early to late autumn and draw butterflies and bees. It also has a bloom window in summer, so check the bed for color across seasons.

Pairs well with Big bluestem, Jeana garden phlox, and Mountain laurel.
