Notes

Dark purple knapweed (Centaurea atropurpurea) is a perennial for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. It blooms from early to late summer, draws butterflies and bees, and tolerates drought. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. Its tall stems reach about 35 to 47 inches.

Pairs well with Avens, Upright myrtle spurge, Autumn moor grass, and Elfin mother of thyme.
