Notes
'Defiance' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Defiance') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The single blooms are bright crimson and open in early summer. Pink centers and hairy carpels with red tips add interest up close. H.A. Terry bred it, and the plant spreads, so give it room.
Pairs well with Immortality iris, Aromatic aster, Tall fescue, and Carnaval De Nice tulip.
