Notes

Eastern baccharis (Baccharis halimifolia) is a shrub for pollinator gardens, hedges, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Female plants carry silvery, plume-like seed heads in fall that look like paintbrushes. Bees and butterflies visit the flowers, and birds eat the seeds. The wood is weak and breaks easily, so plant it away from heavy wind.

Pairs well with Buttonbush, Switchgrass, and Wild bergamot.
