Notes

Mule fat (Baccharis salicifolia) is a shrub for hedges, low maintenance gardens, and xeriscapes. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist, sandy soil. It forms thickets and has willow-like leaves. Despite its name, it is not a willow but a member of the aster family. Butterflies and birds visit it, and it makes a good habitat plant.

Pairs well with Olive, Texas mountain laurel, Frogfruit, and Lupine.
