Notes

Eastern round-leaved violet (Viola rotundifolia) is a perennial for low maintenance gardening. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It has small yellow flowers in early to late spring, and butterflies visit the blooms. Deer rarely make it their first choice. The flowers and leaves grow on separate stalks, and the roundish leaves sit at the base.

Pairs well with Wood fern, White baneberry, and Fringed sedge.
