Notes

Fringed sedge (Carex crinita) is a grass for rain gardens, woodland gardens, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Its long, nodding spikes and strap-like leaves stay green all year, and birds visit it. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Give it a spot near a pond or stream.

Pairs well with Royal fern, Great blue lobelia, and Sensitive fern.
