Notes

Wood fern (Dryopteris carthusiana) is a fern for borders, shade gardens, and woodland settings. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to wet soil of most types. The lacy fronds appear early in spring in a vase-like cluster, and the sterile fronds stay evergreen. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. It is relatively free of pests and diseases.

Pairs well with Paradigm hosta, Canadian white violet, and Little Hottie panicle hydrangea.
