Notes

'El Capitan' rose (Rosa 'El Capitan') is a shrub for borders, cottage gardens, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun and loamy or clay soil. Herbert C. Swim bred it in 1960. It grows upright to about 59 inches tall and has dark green leaves. Medium red blooms open from late spring into early autumn, and bees visit them.

Pairs well with Woolly yarrow, Little bluestem, and Nelly Moser clematis.
