Notes

'Emmchen' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Emmchen') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Large, cream flowers with lilac shading open in late spring and have a fragrance. Max Josef Goos bred it in 1919. The stems are strong, so it holds a compact, upright shape with dark green leaves.

Pairs well with Swamp milkweed, Incrediball Storm Proof smooth hydrangea, and Royal fern.
