Notes

'Fireball' Japanese barberry (Berberis thunbergii 'Fireball') is a shrub for borders, containers, and hedges. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil of most types. It stays dense and compact, and it grows at a moderate pace. Bees and birds visit it, and it tolerates drought and salt. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with False indigo, Pink Impression tulip, and Flowering quince.
