Notes

Florist's spiraea (Astilbe japonica) is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, shade gardens, and woodland settings. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist, loamy soil. It grows fast and forms an arching clump with white blooms in spring and summer that bees visit. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. The foliage shows shades of green, copper, and burgundy.

Pairs well with Green Spice coral bells, Western sword fern, and Red trillium.
