Notes
'Helmond Pillar' Japanese barberry (Berberis thunbergii 'Helmond Pillar') is a shrub for hedges and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Its narrow, dense form grows 48 to 60 inches tall and only 12 to 24 inches wide. Deer tend to browse other plants first. It blooms in early to late spring, draws bees and birds, and turns color in fall.
Pairs well with Blue Arrow Rocky mountain juniper, Common milkweed, and Pink Impression tulip.
