Notes

Hens and chicks (Sempervivum arachnoideum) is a succulent for borders and containers, and it needs little care. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy or loamy soil. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. It stays evergreen and tolerates drought, so it looks good all year. Bees and butterflies visit it, and each plant spreads about 12 inches wide.

Pairs well with Elfin mother of thyme, Prickly-pear, Sea holly, and Globemaster allium.
