Notes

'Hertford' sweet cherry (Prunus avium 'Hertford') is a tree for food gardens and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun. Its columnar shape suits small spaces, and the spring flowers draw butterflies and bees. The fruit is grown for fresh eating, but this tree is not self-fertile, so plant a second cherry nearby. Peter Matthews bred it in the 1970s.

Pairs well with Red elderberry, Ice Follies daffodil, and Aromatic aster.
