Notes

Hooded pitcher plant (Sarracenia minor) is a perennial for containers, specimen plantings, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun and average to wet, sandy or loamy soil. Yellow flowers rise on leafless stalks in spring. The hollow, tubular leaves have reddish veins and pale spots, and each one ends in an overarching hood. The hood keeps rain out, so insects follow a nectar path up the leaf and slip down to be digested.

Pairs well with Swamp milkweed, Virginia sweetspire, and Karl Foerster feather reed grass.
