Pitcher plant (Sarracenia catesbaei) is a perennial for containers and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to wet, sandy or loamy soil. It is a natural hybrid of S. flava and S. purpurea. The black red flowers are fragrant and open in spring and again in summer. Acid soil suits it best.
