'Huan Yan' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Huan Yan') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The purplish red double blooms are about 4 3/4 inches wide and open in mid to late spring. Each stem carries one bloom. The upright plant grows to 24 inches and holds itself up without staking.
Pairs well with Lupine, Switchgrass, and Stargazer lily.
