Notes

Italian alder (Alnus cordata) is a tree for naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to wet soil. It grows 30 to 50 feet tall and 20 to 30 feet wide, so give it room. Yellowish-green male catkins and reddish-green female catkins appear in early spring.

Pairs well with American aspen, Ostrich fern, and Sweet woodruff.
