Notes

'John Gardner' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'John Gardner') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The Japanese type flowers have bright red guard petals that fade to rosy red. The center holds bright red staminodes with golden edges. It blooms heavily in late mid season and stays a medium height.

Pairs well with Sweet William, Queen of Night tulip, Little bluestem, and Cinnamon fern.
