Notes

'Kiwi Claret' peony (Paeonia 'Kiwi Claret') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. The semi-double blooms are ruby-red with cream undertones and golden stamens, and each stem carries three buds. John and Dot McFarlane bred it in 2001.

Pairs well with Arabella clematis, Lady of the snows, Big bluestem, and Lily of the valley.
