Notes
'Lochglow' common hornbeam (Carpinus betulus 'Lochglow') is a tree for specimen planting, hedges, and privacy screens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It has an oval shape and grows slowly, so it stays tidy for a long time. It is drought tolerant and attracts birds.
Pairs well with Catalpa, Sweet pepperbush, Big bluestem, and Wild bergamot.
