Notes

Mexican plum (Prunus mexicana) is a tree for borders, specimen planting, and hedges. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist soil of most types. Fragrant white flowers open before the leaves appear. The plums ripen from yellow to mauve to purple, and you can eat them fresh or make them into preserves. Birds and mammals eat the fruit too.

Pairs well with Post oak, Beautyberry, and Cedar elm.
