Notes

'Monch' tartarian aster (Aster frikartii 'Monch') is a perennial for borders. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. Lavender blue flowers open from early to late summer and again from early to late autumn, and butterflies visit them. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. The plant is also drought tolerant.

Pairs well with Black-eyed Susan, Late boneset, and Knotweed.
