Notes

Nevin's barberry (Berberis nevinii) is a shrub for borders, hedges, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry, sandy or clay soil. Yellow flower spikes cover the evergreen shrub in spring, and birds use it for habitat. Its leaves are spiny, so wear gloves when you prune. Deer tend to browse other plants first.

Pairs well with Autumn moor grass, Elfin mother of thyme, and Incense cedar.
