Notes

Stock (Matthiola incana) is an annual for borders, cut flowers, and cottage gardens. It grows well in cool weather and can ride out a light frost. This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Erect stems carry fragrant blooms in cream, pink, purple, and white. Butterflies and bees visit the flowers, and the plant tolerates salt. Deer tend to browse other plants first.

Pairs well with Aster, Anemone, and Teddy Bear sunflower.

Native range

Middle East and Central Asia.
