Notes

'Niitaka' pear (Pyrus pyrifolia 'Niitaka') is a tree for specimen planting and the food garden. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer tend to pass it by. It blooms in early to late spring, attracts bees and birds, and needs a second pear nearby because it is not self-fertile.

Pairs well with Cortland apple, Lenten rose, and Sedge.
