Notes

Ohio spiderwort (Tradescantia ohiensis) is a perennial for borders, pollinator gardens, meadows, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to wet soil of most types. Showy clusters of deep blue to rose blue flowers top the branched stems, and bees and butterflies visit the blooms. Flowers tend to open in morning and shrivel when touched in the heat of the day. Deer rarely make it their first choice.

Pairs well with Butterfly milkweed, Blue-eyed grass, Switchgrass, and Sedge.

Native range

Eastern and central North America.
