Notes

Pacific aster (Symphyotrichum chilense) is a perennial for low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry, loamy or clay soil. Yellow and violet flowers open in early to late summer and again in early to late autumn. Butterflies, bees, and birds visit the blooms. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Autumn moor grass, Jerusalem sage, and Lime Zinger sedum.
