Notes
Pacific pea (Lathyrus vestitus) is a perennial vine for containers, ground cover, and low maintenance gardens. It grows outdoors year-round in USDA zone 9 and warmer, down to about 20°F (-7°C). In colder areas, grow it as a houseplant or bring it indoors for winter. This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It bears fragrant white and purple flowers in spring and summer, and butterflies visit them. The leaves stay green all year.
Pairs well with Pacific bleeding heart, Pacific wax myrtle, and Heavy Metal switchgrass.
