Notes

'Pleurisy Root' asclepias (Asclepias tuberosa 'Pleurisy Root') is a perennial for borders, pollinator gardens, rock gardens, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. The fragrant orange flowers feed monarch butterflies and other pollinators, and the plant hosts monarch caterpillars. It is late to emerge in spring, so be patient.

Pairs well with Magnus coneflower, Prairie dropseed, and Indian Summer rudbeckia.
