Notes

'Purpurea' European beech (Fagus sylvatica 'Purpurea') is a tree for specimen planting, accent, privacy screen, and hedge use. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. It grows slowly into a dense shape and attracts birds. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Give it plenty of room to spread.

Pairs well with River birch, Aurea atlas cedar, and Christmas fern.
