Notes

'Purple Fountain' European beech (Fagus sylvatica 'Purple Fountain') is a tree for specimen planting, accent, and shade garden use. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. Deer tend to browse other plants first. It grows slowly into a narrow, weeping pyramid with dark burgundy leaves that turn copper in fall. The deepest color comes in full sun, and it needs no pruning.

Pairs well with Green Spice coral bells, Christmas fern, Wild geranium, and Pink Impression tulip.
