Notes

'Pygruzam' Japanese barberry (Berberis thunbergii 'Pygruzam') is a shrub for hedges and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Small blooms open in early to late spring and draw bees and birds. It forms a dense mound that tolerates drought and salt. Deer tend to browse other plants first.

Pairs well with Standing Ovation little bluestem, New England aster, and Panicle hydrangea.
