Notes

'Raphael' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Raphael') is a perennial for borders and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Mechin bred it in 1882. The dark red, semi-rose blooms open extra early and the plant stays short, erect, and compact, so it suits the front of a bed.

Pairs well with Balloon flower, Sedge, and Cheerfulness daffodil.
