Notes

Red cedar (Juniperus virginiana) is a tree for specimen planting, hedges, privacy screens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 2, or down to -50°F (-46°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to wet soil of most types. Its fragrant evergreen foliage is scale-like, and the pale blue fruits on female plants feed many birds and small mammals. Deer tend to pass it by.

Pairs well with Paper birch, Arrowwood viburnum, and Red fescue.

Native range

Eastern North America.
