Notes

'Red Comet' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Red Comet') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It grows tall, about 28 to 31 inches, and has stiff stems. The double dark red blooms open in early spring. Edward Auten, Jr bred it in 1956 as a seedling of 'Radiant Red'.

Pairs well with Columbine, Smooth aster, and Cinnamon fern.
