Notes

'Red Lacquer' peony (Paeonia 'Red Lacquer') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The fragrant scarlet blooms match the color of Chinese lacquer and have a variegated center. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Bees and butterflies visit the flowers.

Pairs well with June hosta, Stargazer lily, and Switchgrass.
