Notes

Roof iris (Iris tectorum) is a clumping perennial for ground cover and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average moisture. Deep lilac-blue purple flowers with a white crest open in early to late spring. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. The clumps stay 12 to 18 inches tall.

Pairs well with Tree peony, Burnet, and Black Parrot tulip.

Native range

Central and southwestern China and Myanmar.
