Notes

Douglas iris (Iris douglasiana) is a perennial for ground cover and low maintenance. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Ruffled lavender-blue flowers open on branched stems in early to late spring. Deer tend to pass it by. The evergreen leaves look good even when the plant is not in bloom, and butterflies visit the flowers.

Pairs well with Western columbine, California gray rush, California wild rose, and Hummingbird trumpet.
