Notes
'Sapphire' rice button aster (Symphyotrichum dumosum 'Sapphire') is a perennial for borders, containers, and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and average to moist soil of most types. It blooms in early to late summer and again in early to late autumn, and butterflies and birds visit the flowers. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. It also tolerates salt.
Pairs well with Black-eyed Susan, Morning Light eulalia, Stonecrop, and Purple top.
