Notes

'Sarah' mountain laurel (Kalmia latifolia 'Sarah') is a shrub for hedges, accents, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. It stays evergreen and grows in a dense mound up to 60 inches tall and wide. Pinkish red flowers open in spring and again in summer, and they draw butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and birds.

Pairs well with New England aster, Big bluestem, and Sassafras.
