Notes

Shantung maple (Acer truncatum) is a tree for specimen use, shade gardens, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil. It grows slowly into a broad tree that is 20 to 25 feet tall. Greenish yellow flowers open in spring and attract bees. The green leaves turn color in fall, and the tree also tolerates drought.

Pairs well with Black gum, Cinnamon fern, Halcyon hosta, and Smooth hydrangea.

Native range

Northern China, Manchuria, and Korea.
