Notes

Star magnolia (Magnolia stellata) is a tree for specimen planting, borders, accents, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to wet, loamy soil. Fragrant white flowers open in early spring or late winter. Bees, butterflies, and birds visit the tree. It grows slowly and has a multi-stemmed form, so give it room to spread.

Pairs well with Inkberry, Switchgrass, Black Parrot tulip, and American hornbeam.
