Notes

'Story' pear (Pyrus communis 'Story') is a tree for food gardens and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Spring flowers draw butterflies, bees, and birds. The fruit has dark red skin and sweet, firm flesh that stores well. It over-sets fruit, so plan to thin the fruitlets each year.

Pairs well with Plum, Gladiator ornamental onion, Black-eyed Susan, and Royal fern.
