Notes

'Talago' Japanese barberry (Berberis thunbergii 'Talago') is a shrub for pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It stays small at 6 to 12 inches tall and wide, and pale yellow spring flowers attract bees and birds. It sits low on the menu for deer. The leaves color up in fall.

Pairs well with Flowering quince, Indian grass, and Common milkweed.
