Notes

Texas Indian paintbrush (Castilleja indivisa) is an annual for low maintenance gardens, meadows, and woodland edges. This plant likes full sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Red and orange bracts form bright spikes in early to late spring. Hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees visit the blooms. It draws part of its nutrients from the roots of nearby grasses, so transplanting may kill it.

Pairs well with Texas bluebonnet, Poppy mallow, and Bigfruit evening-primrose.
